I purchased this book a while back because out of all the reviews on Feng Shui books i researched, this one had the best ratings as far a Traditional Feng Shui is concerned. I've always been interested in "the real deal" when it comes to ancient traditions, so out of all the "westernized" versions of Feng Shui, simplified to a non-functional degree, i chose to stick by the difficult, more precise work of the traditional method. Feng Shui is an exact science and obliviating any detail WILL definitely impact the outcome of your Feng Shui reading and therefore your life. Out of all the books i have purchased and read, all those read in the libraries, the articles i've found on the internet, the myths heard around, etc... This book clarified everything to a certain point because it is a very extent subject that cannot just simply be covered in its entirety in a book. REAL TRADITIONAL Feng Shui IS in fact a long, complicated subject that involves lots of thinking, intuition, time investment, attention to detail and perfectionism on the part of those doing a reading for a house, yet Elizabeth Moran, Master Joseph Yu and Master Val Biktashev have put together such a MASTER piece of work in this book, that as long as you can read, you WILL do your own Feng Shui reading (the traditional way) by the time you complete this book. Had i known such Master piece of work was hidden under the ordinary disguise of a Complete Idiot's Guide, i wouldn't have spent all the money and time i did on those less ordinary, beautiful covers. A bit pricey at first impression, but worth a fortune in knowledge, this book covers a great amount of information explained in great detail. Flying the stars backwards or forwards is one of the most intimidating subjects i found, but like plenty other subjects within the book, all it took was a bit of peace and quiet and re-reading forwards for the whole thing to shine in the light of understanding. This is a subject that should be carefully studied and practiced before applying it in your life. Any mistakes could be detrimental!!! Stephen Skinner wrote a wonderful Foreword on this book that says it plainly: "Let me assure you that, properly done (Feng Shui), it is every bit as effective as the curative properties of acupuncture, and if wrongly applied, every bit as devastating as a karate blow." It is hard to adapt such ancient science belonging to a completely different cultural background and way of thinking, to our western fast paced lifestyle, but these three authors did a fantastic job. Take a bow and hats off to them three for this master piece. If you ever want to learn REAL Feng Shui, this is honestly THE BOOK you need to start with the right foot. This was my first book on Feng Shui and while the beginning wasn't too interesting, (it's all about the history), I still kept reading because I really wanted to learn about Feng Shui. Once you get to the middle of the book, it's very interesting and I felt it was very informative. I was very excited about doing all the steps, the floor plan of the house, the compass reading, finding the year my house was constructed...all very fun stuff to work through. Then, getting to the part where they tell you, based on the flying star system and all your information you got from the compass, what pie chart matches your home...it seems that I have a bad luck house and the cures for it were pretty glum. 3 choices were given, move, cut a hole in the roof to allow heaven chi to come in, or try to keep the center of the house open toward all the directions. Well, I can't do much about changing the structure of the house, nor can I move at the moment...so this book let me down in a huge way. All of my excitement and enthusiasm drained out of me. The author could have been a little more positive with remedies that were doable. Plus, I still found no answers to help me figure out how to remedy any element in any other rooms. I even went back to the beginning of the book, twice, rereading to see if maybe the answers were there. I felt more confused than ever. Maybe it's just me, but I did not find the answers I was looking for in this book. Not only that, I felt disappointed that the author wasn't more positive with helpful remedies.
